Elvaston Castle remains one of my favourite locations for engagement shoots in Derby – and not just because of the ice cream van! The grounds are so varied and versatile, it offers lots of different options for a couples shoot even if you don’t go near the house itself.

I met Susan and Ben here for their engagement shoot a few weeks before their wedding. As you’ll know, if you are familiar with our approach at all, I always include an engagement shoot in my wedding photography packages because I can’t think of a better way of getting to know a couple really well and take away any photography-related anxieties ahead of their wedding day.

That was certainly the case with Ben and Susan, who had met at university, fallen in love and were now just a stone’s throw away from becoming husband and wife. It was a pleasure to spend an hour with them in the beautiful grounds of Elvaston Castle and when I arrived on the morning of their wedding, we could pick up right where we left off.
