“People always say it, but it truly is the best day of your life, and looking through our photographs allowed us to relive that perfect day all over again!” Jodie & Rob
Jodie and Rob met through work, and spent nearly two years planning their perfect wedding. I first met up with them for a chat at the Bull’s Head in Repton to discuss their wedding photography. Anyone who knows the Bull’s Head knows that it’s a fantastic pub, with lovely food and a great, intimate atmosphere. It’s an ideal place to meet and have a chat, whilst relaxing with a drink. Unless, of course, it’s quiz night. On quiz night the popular pub is packed to the rafters, and we just managed to find roughly six inches of space at the bar to sit together and discuss their wedding plans. It was quite useful being sat so close to each other, as it meant that we didn’t need to bellow quite so loudly over the quizmaster in order to hear each other!
Fast forward to the wedding day at the stunning Mythe Barn Wedding Venue and everything was far quieter and calmer when I arrived late in the morning. Jodie had decided that she didn’t want lots of photos as she was getting ready, so I spent a little time capturing some of their amazing wedding details. One of the great things about Mythe Barn is that they usually use two separate rooms for the ceremony and the reception, meaning that the reception room and the ceremony room are both dressed and prepared in advance of the wedding. No need to wait around whilst a room is transformed from ceremony room to reception room!
The glitz and glamour of Jodie and Rob’s vision was evident throughout their detailing. Jodie had styled the entire wedding herself and I’ll think you’ll agree that she had done an incredible job – it wasn’t over-the-top, but the subtle 1920’s theme touched each detail. The cake was fantastic, created by the ever-so talented Amy from The Sugarpod Cakery in Melbourne. It looked amazing during the day, but really spectacular in the evening when complemented by the fantastic pink uplighting!
Meanwhile, upstairs the finishing touches were being applied to the bridal party by Katie from KreAtive Hair and Rebecca Frances MUA. I managed to grab a photo of Jodie’s beautiful Pronovia dress alongside the beautiful bouquet designed and supplied by Indigo Acre.
Once everyone was ready, it was time for one of my favourite moments of any wedding day. Jodie’s Dad had been waiting patiently outside, but eventually he decided that he couldn’t wait to see his daughter any longer and almost caught me off guard as he appeared in the doorway. Fortunately I managed to capture his reaction in a series of photos that I think will remain as some of my favourites forever. I’ve included the whole series below.
Back downstairs, Pat had arrived, (my glamourous assistant for the day) and had found Rob, who was looking very dapper in his dinner jacket and bowtie as he greeted his guests. Carly, the event manager at Mythe Barn on the day, was on-hand to help Rob attach his button-hole flowers, which wasn’t really as painful as it looks in the photo below!
The ceremony was beautiful, and also provided another of the day’s most memorable moments when Jodie accidentally said Rob’s name in the wrong order! To be fair, he has more than his fair share of middle names, and the resulting laughter made the room feel even more friendly, welcoming and intimate.
The rest of the day went perfectly. The weather was on its best behaviour, even if the temperature was a little cool! We shot some gorgeous portraits of the new Mr and Mrs Kirby both inside Mythe Barn and in some of the beautiful grounds outside.
In the evening the entertainment was provided by Matt from Dancefloor DJs and Events who kept everyone on the dancefloor long into the night.
I absolutely loved being a part of Jodie and Rob’s magical day, and would like to wish them all the joy and happiness in the world as their future unfolds together. As Jodie says, her best friend is now her family, and I can’t think of a better way to start married life than with your best friend!
Time for a last piece of advice from Jodie: “On the day, it’s easy to get caught up with all of your guests. Make sure you also spend some time with your new husband or wife, and make the most of every minute!”Â
