Weekend Ramble | A Photo A Day | Day Six

I’ve challenged myself to post a photo a day for the next year, (maybe beyond) and explain the story behind it, and why I love it. Today’s featured image is from our family visit to Santa!
I didn’t have a wedding to shoot this weekend, so it was a welcome opportunity to spend some quality time with the three ladies in my life! Tomorrow I’ll be photographing (and briefly appearing in!) the Darley Dance Christmas Show, which will occupy most of the afternoon and evening. Usually, I end up working one day each weekend; it’s just part and parcel of being a wedding photographer. Sadly, this does impact on the amount of time I have to spend with the children during term times. I know that ultimately I’m doing it for them, but I am also aware that it is so important to be present with them now, and so I’ll always strive to make one of the weekend days memorable!
Today marked Sophie’s first visit to see Santa, and it’s fair to say that she was a little unsure of him at first (in other words, she burst into tears as soon as she saw him!), but Ellie was much more relaxed and comfortable with the big man this year. She made her request for a Hatchimal and an Anna doll (from Frozen), and she left with an Etch-a-Sketch type of thing.
These days are so precious. I can’t believe how quickly Ellie is growing up, and Sophie won’t be far behind her. It’s often hard for me to stay in the moment, with all the pulls on my attention from smartphones and social media, and I have to remind myself about what my real priorities are. I love my job, but days like this just can’t be beaten 🙂
