“Our wedding was more amazing than we ever thought possible, and seeing our photos for the first time brought back overwhelming emotions and lovely, happy memories! All the thoughts and feelings of the day itself flooded back.”
Kelly and Kevin’s wedding was always going to be extra special. If you haven’t read our back-story, I’d highly recommend having a quick look at their Darley Park engagement shoot blog post here.
Seven years ago Kelly and Kevin met through a mutual friend and a small helping hand from Facebook. Where would we be without social media? Then, just before Christmas last year, Kevin somehow managed to smuggle a ring up to the top of the Millennium Dome in London (made tricky as the overalls they ask you to wear for the climb don’t have pockets!) and proposed to the woman he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Happily, Kelly said yes, and the pair decided on a short engagement.
Back in Derby the two of them fell in love with The West Mill. It’s easy to see why. The former cotton mill is an incredible wedding venue set on the banks of the River Derwent in Darley Abbey. Each part of the wedding day is essentially hosted on a different floor within the mill – the ceremony is on the top floor, the wedding breakfast on the second floor, the evening reception is hosted on the first floor, and the ground floor is a beautiful space for a drinks reception whilst photographs are taken in the beautiful grounds.
“Our venue would have looked great with no decoration or styling at all. We decided on a few key decorations to bring our personality & style to the venue but didn’t want to do too much and take anything away from the beautifully renovated Mill. Our beautiful flowers (from Fletcher’s) were our favourite decorations.” Kelly
Kelly and Kevin set the date of their wedding, and gave themselves just 11 weeks to prepare for the biggest day of their lives! When it came to finding suppliers, Kelly found that personal recommendations from their family and friends were crucial.
The whole day was simply perfect from start to finish. I was ably assisted on this occasion by Geoff Kirby, and we had as much fun as the guests. Kelly and Kevin are quite clearly made for each other, and I know they’re going to live happily ever after!
“The best thing about being married is knowing that you will spend your life with your best friend. We’re both looking forward to the adventure ahead of us!” Kelly & Kevin
Gorgeous venue, beautiful pictures! I’ll bet they’re thrilled 🙂
