Your Wedding Day Emergency Kit | Tips From A Wedding Photographer

There’s so much to think about when planning a wedding, isn’t there? You start with the major things: setting a date and finding a venue, then move on to the almost-as-important tasks such as finding the dresses and suits, booking your wedding photographer (I can help there – nudge, nudge) and entertainment etc. And of course, arduous chores like tasting a range of wedding cakes and deciding on a menu for the reception, or choosing the wine – after all that hard work most couples are ready for a few months of recovery before the big day!

However, when planning all those big, exciting aspects of your wedding, don’t forget that on the day itself, there are some more mundane items you need to have ready. Just in case.

As a wedding photographer, I always carry some none-photography related items in my camera bag. A small sewing kit, including safety pins, some medicines, some tissues, and a pair of scissors. They’ve all come in handy on so many occasions!

I’ve put together a list of other things worth thinking about. Obviously, you don’t want to be hauling a small trailer’s worth of accessories around with you on your wedding day, but it’s nevertheless useful to keep these things somewhere handy. You just never know!

Feel free to print these out as a checklist:

  • Mini-make up items for touch-ups
  • Lip balm
  • Nail file
  • Hairbrush/comb
  • Mirror
  • Deodorant – roll on
  • Plasters
  • Blister Pads
  • Needle and thread
  • Hairpins
  • Safety Pins
  • Painkillers
  • Mints/gum
  • Tissues
  • Cash/Card
  • Supplier contacts
  • Keys

It’s an idea to put these things in a bag which can stay safely locked in someone’s car boot – this is what bridesmaids and groomsmen are for!

What have I missed? Is there anything you would add? Let me know!

And there you have it, my wedding-day allies. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to ensure your wedding day goes off without a hitch. You’ve got your essential emergency kit checklist, and I’d bet a packet of confetti that you’ll feel more at ease knowing you’re prepared for every eventuality. Remember, whilst you’ve got everything under control on the ground, you’ll need someone to capture those picture-perfect moments from the sidelines. That’s where I come in.
